Our Work
Person centered.
Since 1952, The Arc of Washington County has fostered an inclusive community that celebrates independence with a person-centered philosophy for adults and youth with a wide range of intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Arc of Washington County empowers individuals to define success on their own terms, fostering new interests and maximizing opportunities along the way. Each person served takes the lead in setting their own goals, with the organization providing support every step of the way.
We are a private, non-profit local chapter of The Arc of Maryland and The Arc of The United States, the largest volunteer organization in the world devoted exclusively to improving the quality of life for all persons with developmental disabilities.
Four pillars we stand upon
People
To promote person-centered values that attract and retain passionate, diverse professionals. To educate and empower staff to provide quality care that promotes advocacy, and supports all individuals to live their best lives.
Community
To provide The Arc of Washington County, and the greater community, with the resources needed to support the ever-changing needs of those with IDD through innovation and education. To develop and foster reciprocal relationships within the community that benefit others and those supported by The Arc.
Service
To provide quality, person-centered support that exceeds the expectations of stakeholders and persons supported. To strive for excellence by investing in a culture of safety that anticipates the needs of those supported. To be at the forefront of change within the community by offering inclusive programs, contemporary facilities, and state-of-the-art technology.
Financial
To ensure access to the financial resources necessary in providing exemplary service to the people supported by The Arc. To grow financially so as to provide a legacy of support to those within the IDD community.
Leading the way.
As a statewide leader in providing quality supports for individuals with disabilities, The Arc of Washington County will continue to:
Empowering individuals with disabilities to achieve personal growth and develop their natural gifts.
Provide innovative services and opportunities tailored to the changing needs of each individual and the community.
Provide awareness of disabilities through education, community outreach, and partnerships.
The Arc of Washington County works towards its mission to “Empower All to Achieve Meaningful Lives” through providing outreach, community involvement, and employment for the people supported.
