Employment Services
Employment first
At The Arc of Washington County, we embrace the Employment First philosophy, which holds that competitive, integrated employment is the preferred and expected outcome for all individuals with disabilities who are seeking employment. This approach is rooted in the belief that everyone, regardless of ability, can contribute meaningfully to the workforce when provided with appropriate support.

Our Employment Services utilize the Customized Employment model, a flexible, person-centered strategy that tailors job roles to align with an individual's unique strengths, interests, and support needs. This process involves:
Employment Discovery Process: Identifying the individual's skills, interests, and employment goals.
Job Search Planning: Developing a strategic plan to pursue suitable employment opportunities.
Job Development and Negotiation: Engaging with employers to create or modify job roles that fit the individual's profile.
Job Placement with Short/Long-Term Coaching and Ongoing Supports: Providing continuous support to ensure job retention and satisfaction.
By aligning our services with these principles, we aim to empower individuals to achieve meaningful employment outcomes that enhance their independence and quality of life.
“I love the relationship with my coworkers at Foot Locker. My favorite part of my job is helping people and scanning shoes.”
