The Medical Day Care Center is available to individuals who require nursing interventions and monitoring on a daily basis, as prescribed by a physician. Caregivers and nurses assist individuals to improve their capability in self-care and personal hygiene, stimulate and support physical and mental capabilities, and improve social interaction skills. Activities include planned recreational and social events, training in activities of daily living, and counseling to maintain communication with participants and their families, as well as specific therapeutic regimens designed for each participant. Nutritious meals and snacks are provided on a daily basis at the center under the recommendations of a licensed dietician. The program is licensed and regulated by the Department of Mental Health and Hygiene’s Office of Health Care Quality and operates Monday-Friday, 8:00a.m.-3:30p.m., excluding holidays.
The provision of these services gives adults who are medically handicapped the chance to remain with their families or in their communities rather than being unnecessarily placed in a nursing home or state institution.
