The Florida Avenue Medical Day Care Center is available to individuals who require nursing interventions and monitoring on a daily basis, as prescribed by a physician. Caregivers and nurses assist individuals to improve their capability in self-care and personal hygiene, stimulate and support physical and mental capabilities, and improve social interaction skills. Activities include planned recreational and social events, assistance and training in activities of daily living, and encouragement of communication among participants. Nutritious meals and snacks are provided and modified as necessary in accordance with physician’s orders and under the recommendation of a licensed dietician. The program is licensed and regulated by the Department of Mental Health and Hygiene’s Office of Health Care Quality and operates Monday-Friday, 8:00a.m.-3:30p.m., excluding holidays, in a cheerful, inviting, and comfortable handicapped-accessible facility.
The provision of these services gives adults with more serious medical conditions the opportunity to remain with their families or in their communities rather than being unnecessarily placed in a nursing home or state institution.
